Is Substance Use Disorder Treatment Covered By NH Medicaid?
Yes, substance use disorder (SUD) treatment is covered under NH Medicaid.1 The specific type of SUD treatment you will require may vary, as treatment looks different for everyone and should be personalized based on a person’s unique circumstances.2 NH Medicaid rehab can therefore involve various levels of care, and your unique treatment plan and recommendations can also vary depending on your specific needs.2  ÂSUD Rehabilitation Services & Benefits Covered Under NH Medicaid
New Hampshire Medicaid SUD treatment covers a variety of services, and people can typically benefit from a complete continuum of care.1 This means that provided they meet eligibility requirements a person should typically receive coverage for all or part of the entire addiction treatment process. This is guided by a person’s specific treatment plan and may include different levels of care. The following services and benefits are typically covered under NH Medicaid.1Assessments
Assessments are typically the first step in the treatment process, involving a thorough evaluation to determine a person’s unique needs.3 At The Plymouth House, our team of SUD professionals will examine all of your medical, psychological, social, vocational, and legal concerns and take into account factors such as your age, gender, ethnicity, and culture, when determining the appropriate treatment plan and placement for you.2Outpatient Services
Outpatient services, such as The Plymouth House’s partial hospitalization program (PHP), are covered under NH Medicaid.1 Our highly structured and supportive PHP is designed to bridge the gap between inpatient or residential care and standard outpatient services. It’s also available to people who are in need of more intensive services, including those with co-occurring mental health conditions.Residential Treatment
Residential/inpatient programs are covered by NH Medicaid.1 The Plymouth House’s residential program involves living onsite at our holistic treatment center, which provides 24/7 support, care, and monitoring, while allowing you to fully focus on your recovery without outside distractions or exposure to triggers.Opioid Treatment Programs
Opioid treatment programs (OTPs) are also covered by NH Medicaid.1 Â These programs are designed to treat people struggling with oxycodone (OxyContin), hydrocodone, morphine, codeine, fentanyl, heroin, hydromorphone (Dilaudid), oxymorphone (Opana), and more.4 Our medication-assisted approach to treating opioid use disorder involves a combination of medications, such as buprenorphine or Suboxone, and counselling and behavioral therapies, to provide a comprehensive plan designed to help people start and stay on the path to recovery.3Recovery Support Services
Recovery can take time and ongoing effort that continues even after a person completes a formal treatment program, which is why it’s important to engage in some form of aftercare.2 NH Medicaid provides coverage for recovery support services, which may involve recovery housing, recovery support communities, and/or family supports.1, 5Recovery Monitoring
Recovery monitoring should also be provided as a part of a comprehensive aftercare program. It can involve a variety of interventions and supports, such as regular recovery check-ins, ongoing individual or group counseling, or participation in 12-Step support groups. Recovery monitoring can take place in a variety of settings, such as our New Hampshire Medicaid rehab program, or by continuing the recovery journey with a licensed counselor, therapist, or peer recovery program.6Does NH Medicaid Cover Drug & Alcohol Detox Services?
Fortunately, New Hampshire Medicaid detox is a part of comprehensive SUD services that are typically covered under NH Medicaid.1, 3 Withdrawal management involves a set of interventions that are designed to help people stay as safe and comfortable as possible as they undergo detox and become medically stable.7 People who are covered under NH Medicaid include those who require medication, have a recent history of withdrawal management at a less intensive level of care, and have been unable to complete withdrawal management and enter into continuing addiction treatment.3, 4NH Medicaid & Mental Health Disorder Treatment Coverage
NH Medicaid also covers co-occurring mental health disorder treatment.2 A co-occurring disorder means that a person has an addiction and a mental health disorder, such as depression or anxiety, at the same time. Integrated treatment, such as that which is offered at The Plymouth House’s NH Medicaid rehab, is designed to treat both conditions and is advisable to achieve optimal outcomes.2Do All New Hampshire Addiction Treatment Programs Accept Medicaid?
Not all NH addiction treatment programs accept Medicaid. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 45 out of 59 NH SUD treatment providers accept Medicaid. The Plymouth House is pleased to accept New Hampshire Medicaid via the following health plans: NH Healthy Families/Ambetter, AmeriHealth Caritas NH, and WellSense. Our In-Network New Hampshire Managed Medicaid Providers
