My Journey to Guardian.
As a child and teenager, I tended to be someone people sought out if they needed someone to talk to. But following high school, I didn’t immediately put my counseling skills to work. Rather, I worked in the hospitality industry as a server and made my way into corporate training. All the while, however, I wondered how I could get a job helping people.Â
During this time, I had a friend who was a social worker. They encouraged me to seek out training in the counseling field, so I decided to give it a try. In fact, my hospitality job helped me pay for graduate school.Â
In terms of my connections to Immersion, my friend’s wife, who’s a therapist at Immersion, decided to take some extended time off after the birth of their second child. So that role became available, and I was offered the job not long after grad school.Â
As of November 2024, I’ve been with Guardian for more than 4 years.

What I Do
Initially, I was a primary therapist for the partial hospitalization program (PHP) and intensive outpatient program (IOP). But in February 2024, I stepped into the role of clinical supervisor.Â
Right now, I do a little bit of everything. I have an administrative role working with the Clinical Directors to help oversee clinical staff. I handle scheduling, set up trainings, and work with billing and compliance. I connect with a lot of different areas to improve the overall quality of care for our clients. However, I still do therapy as needed.
What Helps Clients Most
Guardian Recovery as a whole really believes in the importance of quality client care. It’s part of the culture throughout the organization. So having that mindset across all aspects of care, regardless of each individual’s job, provides clients with the best care possible and makes us unique in the world of addiction recovery.
There’s also a considerable number of people who have experienced substance use or mental health issues themselves or through family members. That translates to a natural passion for caring for the people in our care.
At Immersion Recovery, we introduce clients to the 12 Steps. It’s a very special process because it connects them to a longer-term goal, which is hopefully getting them connected to a 12-Step-based recovery program.Â
I can speak clinically that some of our clients’ work on the 12 Steps really helps them get to some deeper issues that may have taken them years to get to in therapy. As a therapist, I see that it’s very helpful for them to work on the steps and bring that work into session for clinical support.

About Me
- My secret talent is … my ability to pick up on patterns, which allows me to find solutions for myself and my clients quicker.
- The best part of this gig is … being able to work with very creative people in different departments who have helped me grow personally and professionally. The opportunities the company provides are also valuable.Â
- When it comes to work accomplishments, I am most proud of … my ability to progress in this company and continue to learn.
- What makes me want to come to work every day is … the people I work with, the clients, and the work that we’re doing. Culturally, everyone is aligned to try to help. It feels good to come to work and know that everyone has the same intention.
- “Me” time is for … family and friends. I enjoy going to sporting events, most often with friends, and I’m a big college football fan. The Miami Hurricanes are by far my favorite team. I also enjoy golfing and traveling—or better yet traveling to different golf courses. I’m also a big food connoisseur and enjoy trying different restaurants.
- The motto I live by is … treat others how you want to be treated.

What Would I Say to Someone Who’s Hesitant About Recovery?
I try to meet them where they’re at and normalize the experience. I let them know doubt is a normal part of it and they’ve make a big positive step forward in deciding to seek help. I also encourage them to give the process a chance. At our facility, they’re surrounded by people who care, who understand, who have lived the experience, and who are going to help them.
