My Journey to Guardian.
I was initially hired to do security. But once I began work, management soon saw how well I connected with staff and clients. That’s probably because addiction hits close to home for me. I’ve experienced a lot of it in my family and personal life. So my personal experience has made me very empathetic toward people with substance use issues.
Not long after I started, Guardian Recovery management thought my ability to deal with people from all walks of life would be beneficial to the company and to clients. As such, they offered me a job as a counselor’s assistant, and it’s probably the most fulfilling work I’ve ever done.

Choose recovery and take control of your life, it’s the path to a brighter future filled with health, happiness, and fulfillment.
What I Do
While my main responsibilities include urinalysis and email correspondence, I also have a lot of client contact. They often come to me with a question or issue before they go to a primary counselor. I do whatever I can to make their day better and help them make a new start.
I’m also beginning to learn about facilitating groups. I’m there to ease clients into this stage of recovery and help them feel more comfortable.
What Helps Clients Most
The staff at Guardian IOP really make an effort to meet each client where they are. We have clients from all walks of life, backgrounds, financial situations, etc. And we try to relate to who they really are with understanding and even humor.
I’ve seen many funny interactions and the positive effect they have on clients. It makes them feel human again. That’s so important because addiction can make a person feel broken down and not like themselves. We try to help our clients understand that they are human. While they are not perfect, none of us are—they shouldn’t try to be. They just need to do the best they can every day.

About Me
- The best part of my gig is … the work in general. I love what I do. I love working with the staff and our clients.
- What makes me want to come to work everyday is … literally everything from seeing my supervisors to interacting with my co-workers to being involved in the groups and hearing clients’ stories.
- “Me” time is for … getting tattoos. I started getting tattoos when I was 15, when I had my entire back done. Now, I have them all over my body. I’m not really too sure how I got started, but I know I wanted to dedicate my personal life’s work to art and expression. I think tattoos are a beautiful way to express yourself.
- My secret talent is … understanding people.
- The quote I live by is … take it one day at a time and don’t be hard on yourself. I see many of our clients beating themselves up, and I want them to stop taking the weight of the world on their shoulders. I just want them to give themselves a break. I want them to just be themselves—their best selves—whenever possible.
