Dealing with insurance, paperwork, and mental health care can be a headache, but Katherine Ehinger makes it easier. As Practice Coordinator at Bishop Health, she helps clients feel welcomed and supported from the moment they arrive. With a sharp eye for detail and a genuine commitment to helping others, she takes the stress out of accessing care.
Her work touches every part of the practice. She manages front-end operations, oversees the Spravato program, and collaborates with TMS Supervisor MK Fitzgerald to connect clients with the right care. While much of what she does happens behind the scenes, the effects are felt everywhere. Whether it’s keeping schedules in order, ensuring paperwork doesn’t pile up, or stepping in to help wherever she’s needed, Katherine is the steady hand keeping things on track.

A Career Fueled by a Passion for Mental Health
Mental health has always been more than an interest for Katherine—it’s been her focus from the start. She studied Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of San Francisco, eager to understand how the brain works and how mental health treatment can evolve.
After college, she worked in outpatient mental health clinics before joining a nonprofit medical center in downtown San Francisco. That job opened her eyes to how many obstacles stand between people and the mental health care they need—complicated insurance rules, not enough resources, and way too much paperwork. It was frustrating to see, but it also motivated her to do something about it. She wanted to make the process easier so people could focus on getting help instead of fighting through red tape.
Now, after two years in Maine, she’s taking the next step—earning her Master’s in Social Work at the University of Maine. She’ll also complete her first internship at Bishop Health, gaining deeper clinical experience.
Making the System Work for Clients
Mental health care shouldn’t involve extra hurdles, but too often, it does. Katherine helps clear the path, whether by explaining insurance policies, walking clients through the intake process, or answering questions no one else has taken the time to explain.
“If I can take even one piece of stress off someone’s plate—whether that’s figuring out their insurance, explaining a referral, or just making sure they feel heard—it makes a difference,” she said. “No one should feel like they have to fight through a system just to get help.”
Perspective That Changed Everything
Growing up in a small Connecticut town, Katherine had a pretty sheltered view of the world. Moving to San Francisco was a shock in the best way possible. She saw a side of life she hadn’t been exposed to before—poverty, homelessness, addiction, and people struggling with mental illness who had nowhere to turn.
“I learned pretty fast that you can’t assume anything about a person just by looking at them,” she said. “You don’t know what someone’s been through or how they got there. And sometimes, a little patience or kindness can be the one thing that shifts their day in a better direction.”
That experience gave her a deeper sense of empathy and understanding, qualities she brings into her work every single day.

A Team That Knows How to Support Each Other
Mental health work isn’t just about supporting clients—it’s about having a team that lifts each other up, too.
“We laugh a lot,” Katherine said. “You have to. The work we do is serious, but when you have a team that has your back and can bring some lightness into the day, it makes all the difference.”
At Bishop Medical Group, collaboration is everything. Everyone steps up when needed, making sure clients get the care they deserve while creating a positive, encouraging environment for the staff as well.
Life Outside of Work: Creativity, Pottery, and an Adventure-Loving Dog
When she’s not helping clients, Katherine is creating something new. She has a passion for ceramics, designing unique mugs, bowls, and kitchenware that she gifts to friends and family—or keeps for herself. She’s also big on baking, crochet, and paint-by-numbers, always finding new ways to unwind.
But her most loyal companion? Bentley, her dog. The two explore Maine’s hiking trails all summer, though when winter hits, Bentley prefers the indoors—warm, dry, and curled up where it’s cozy.
The Difference She Makes
Katherine isn’t just keeping the practice running smoothly—she’s making real change happen every day. By removing barriers, supporting her team, and ensuring that clients get the care they need without unnecessary stress, she’s helping shape a better experience for everyone at Bishop Medical Group.
While she’s got big plans ahead in social work, she’s exactly where she needs to be right now—helping clients, supporting her colleagues, and making sure no one has to navigate the system alone.
