In the words of our founder, Josh Scott, Guardian Recovery’s story begins with a personal struggle. “I found my way into treatment at 22 years old,” Josh recalls. This challenging experience was pivotal, as it led to an encounter with a social worker who would guide him toward a life-changing treatment program. “I was resistant to treatment… but this social worker convinced my family that I needed help,” Josh shares. This marked the beginning of a journey not just towards his own recovery, but towards a broader mission of helping others.
After his experience at the treatment center, Josh felt a strong urge to contribute meaningfully in the field of addiction recovery. “From the very beginning of doing work in this space, I knew there was something sacred about providing care to a family and an individual struggling with addiction,” he states. This calling led him to start Guardian Recovery with a core philosophy: to offer the kind of care he would seek for himself or a family member.
The Evolution of Guardian Recovery
Guardian Recovery began with intervention work, with Josh personally traveling around the country to assist families. This experience not only honed his expertise in identifying quality treatment but also seeded the vision for Guardian Recovery’s treatment programs, which continuously increase access to those in need—including those who might not have the financial means to cover the total cost of treatment.
The first brick-and-mortar facility, Guardian Life Skills, opened in 2013 in a quaint 1,200-square-foot house in historic downtown Delray Beach, Florida. As Josh reveals, the facility had humble beginnings. “The bedrooms were converted into therapy offices, and the fireplace area in the living room hosted 12-Step meetings.” This was followed by the launch of Guardian Intensive Outpatient Program in 2014, marking a significant step in offering comprehensive care.
Guardian Recovery’s network grew with the opening of Boca Detox Center in 2016 and Immersion Recovery Center in 2017. “We have held fast to the commitment of providing services with the core belief that the client comes first and that the quality of care needs to be at the core of every decision,” Josh emphasizes.
Reflecting on the evolution of Guardian Recovery, Josh notes, “Guardian has reached a coming of age. Our ability to provide care to a wider community and the evolution of Guardian itself can be reflected in our brand to represent our growth accurately.” Guardian Recovery remains dedicated to its founding principles. “As long as we do that, all the other pieces have fallen into place. We are above and beyond anything else, just committed to being the program that a family needs,” Josh concludes.
